There’s just something about cheese – the tastes, the textures, the perfect compliment to a lovely glass of wine. Maybe it’s simply that the opportunity to enjoy extraordinary cheese gives us reason to pause and enjoy. This is the thinking behind The Cheese Gallery, the most recent addition to Thornbury’s thriving main street.

The Cheese Gallery, opened in June 2010 by cheese-lovers Wendy Bannerman-Clark and Casey Thomson, is a comfortable retail shop and lounge featuring a fantastic selection of cheese along with a wide range of culinary and visual art creations by local artisans.

“We wanted to create a beautiful boutique space to feature the amazing range of incredible products produced by artisans – whether their medium is cheese, bread, tea, sterling silver or wine,” says Thomson.

The ‘gallery’ feel is further achieved with installations of visual art, one-of-a kind pottery, wood, glass or iron pieces and hand-made jewellery displayed throughout the shop. Visitors are welcome to browse the art, sample cheese from around the world, enjoy a cup of tea at the tea bar featuring over 30 types of tea, or snuggle into a comfy armchair to sip a glass of wine and enjoy a vintner’s platter (license pending).

Adding to the art theme, The Cheese Gallery also offers custom framing services. If you’re in the market for an earthly delight, or two, The Cheese Gallery is a must-visit destination.
